Everything to Know About RTX 3070 Gaming PC

Almost a decade ago, 1080p gaming at max settings and high frame rates was known for the domain of elite PC builds. However, the GTX 970 dropped, adding stunning full HD graphics to the PC games for the everyday player. In addition, it offers outstanding performance in graphically intensive games like Batman: Arkham Knight and The Witcher 3.

With the GTX 970, you didn’t need to break the bank or make compromises to get high-quality performance. Currently, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 gaming PC does the same for 4K gaming. So, yes, there are some differences. For instance, RTX 3070 gaming PC is a bit pricier. But, irrespective of this, there is one thing common between the GTX 970 and RTX 3070. Both brought a revolution in the gaming resolution to the masses.

Some Alternatives

There is no denying the fact that there are more powerful graphics cards in the RTX 3000 series, like the GeForce RTX 3080 or the RTX 3090, but the RTX 3070 is a mighty performer that goes head-to-head with the previous generation’s flagship, like the RTX 2080 without the high costing of $1,199. That combination of affordable price and high performance makes it the best graphics card for those priced out of the elite-tier RTX 3080 and RTX 3090.

The RTX 3070 gaming PC is priced at $499, and the performance for the price on offer with the RTX 3070 makes this the best NVIDIA GeForce graphics card at the launch in terms of value. Even today, it is eclipsed by the RTX 3060 Ti in terms of the money spent for every point scored on a benchmark or frame per second achieved while gaming.

The competing card is the AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT review, which offers the same value as the RTX 3070 for gaming. Therefore, if you are looking for the best graphics card for gaming, the RTX 3070 is an excellent option for creative workloads. Also, for a graphics card that can perform graphically intensive tasks like applying filters in Adobe Photoshop and rendering scenes in Blender, this is the card you need to buy.

The Details of RTX 3070 Gaming PC

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 is powered by Ampere GA104 GPU. This GPU has 5888 CUDA cores spread across 46 streaming multiprocessors, based on the same NVIDIA Ampere architecture as the RTX 3080 and RTX 3090. Just like those cards, there are a ton of improvements, both to the raw performance and power efficiency, that empower this mid-range graphics card to perform in a way matched only by the very best graphics card of the last generation.

The biggest improvement from Turning to Ampere is that both the data paths on the Streaming Multiprocessor support FP32 workloads. Thus, it sees an effective doubling of CUDA cores per SM. Therefore, while the RTX 2070 had 36 SMs, it had only 2304 CUDA cores. Thus, while RTX 3070 only boosts SM count by 27%, it doubles the CUDA core count, which massively increases raw rasterization performance. This is impressive enough, but you shall also get the second-generation RT cores and third-generation Tensor cores.

This means both ray tracing and DLSS are much more performant and efficient. In addition, Ray Tracing is much faster because this new RT core brings twice the throughput. Therefore, in ray tracing-heavy workloads like the 3DMark Port Royal benchmark, the RTX 3070 gaming PC can keep up with the RTX 2080 Ti even though the last-generation flagship has more RT cores.
